ALGIERS- Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra held Monday large consultations with a Palestinian delegation, led by the secretary general of the Executive Committee and the head of Negotiation Affairs Department of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Saeb Erekat, on the escalation of Israeli violence in the occupied territories, and the political and diplomatic actions to support the Palestinian cause.
In a statement to the press at the end of the consultation meeting between the members of the Algerian and Palestinian delegations, Lamamra said that the visit of the Palestinian chief negotiator is part of Algeria-Palestine political consultations mechanism, adopted during the last visit of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Algeria in December 2014.
Lamamra underlined that the decisions made during the visit of President Abbas for the coordination and consultation between the two sides so that “the Algerian diplomacy supports more than ever the Palestinian cause.”
In this regard, it has been decided to set up a political consultation mechanism, whose first session was held in December during the visit of the Palestinian Foreign Minister Ryad El-Maliki, said Lamamra.
For his part, Erekat said that the meeting was an opportunity to discuss the situation in the Palestinian territories, which where the defenceless Palestinian people are subject to detentions, assassinations and expropriation of their lands.”
The Palestinian official said that “Algeria has always supported the Palestinian cause.”
Erekat started Sunday a four-day working visit to Algeria, at the invitation of Lamamra, who welcomed him upon his arrival at Houari-Boumediene International Airport.
