Revision of Constitution: President Bouteflika orders broadening of Article 51

ALGIERS-President Abdelaziz Bouteflika ordered the broadening of Article 51 of the draft revision of the Constitution by adding the following sentence: “The Law will determine the list of the highest offices of State,” official sources told APS Tuesday.

Article 51 of the draft revision of the Constitution provides that “Equal access to State positions is guaranteed to all citizens without any other conditions except those defined by law. The exclusive Algerian nationality is required to for access to State positions with great responsibility and political offices.”

The Council of Ministers meeting, chaired by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika Monday in Algiers, has approved the draft revision of the Constitution.
