Maltese president pays tribute to memory of National Liberation War martyrs

ALGIERS- President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca on Monday paid tribute to the memory of the martyrs of the National Liberation War at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Algiers.

Accompanied by Speaker of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament) Abdelkader Bensalah and Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs Mounia Meslem, the Maltese president laid a wreath at the commemorative stele and stood a minute of silence in the memory of the martyrs of the Revolution (1954-1962).

Afterwards, she visited the National Mujaheed (Liberation War veteran) Museum, where she got an outline of the different stages of Algeria’s history, particularly the National Liberation War.

The Maltese president started Tuesday afternoon a three-day state visit to Algeria, at the invitation of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
