Fight against terrorism: Algeria underlines need to continue global efforts
APS:Tuesday, 19 January 2016 17:01ALGIERS- The importance to continue global efforts in combating the scourge of radicalisation and violent extremism, said Tuesday in Algiers the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mourad Adjabi.
“Algeria appreciates the importance of global efforts, which should continue tirelessly to better combat and adapt to the ever changing forms and means of terrorism, particularly with the growing scourge of radicalization and violent extremism,” said Adjabi.
In his opening address at the national workshop on “Investigation and prosecution of terrorism cases in connection with the threat of foreign terrorist fighters,” Adjabi said that “in its fight against terrorism, Algeria has implemented a deep and multidimensional deradicalization policy, which has proved to be necessary more than ever.”
In this regard, the representative of Foreign Ministry underlined that terrorism continues to constitute a major concern for Algeria and represents a “major threat for international peace and security.”
Endowed with its long experience in fighting terrorism, Adjabi said that “Algeria has better understanding of the transnational nature of the scourge,” adding “thus, the efficient fight against violent extremism and radicalization, must be based on the reconsideration of the ideological aspect.”
Adjabi said that “reforms must be undertaken to democratize international relations within the United Nations Security Council, as well as to achieve development and equality, without which it would be futile to seek to achieve international peace, security and stability.”
The three-day workshop, organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and funded by the Embassy of Japan, will focus on themes relating to international legal framework on the fight against terrorism.
