EU representative stresses need to implement peace agreement in MaliALGIERS-Special Representative of the European Union (EU) for the Sahel Angel Losada Fernandez stressed Tuesday the need for the implementation of the peace agreement and reconciliation in Mali derived from Algiers process.
“We are in a crucial period of the peace process in Mali. We must act to reach peace and reconciliation in Mali,” Losada Fernandez told the press after the hearing granted to him by Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.
“I thank Algeria for the impetus it has given to the peace process in Mali,” he added, hailing, at the same time, the holding in Algiers of the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the agreement for peace and reconciliation in Mali.
Referring to the situation in Burkina Faso, the EU representative condemned terrorist acts that occurred last Friday at a hotel in Ouagadougou and urged the authorities of that country to continue on “the road to democracy.”
Losada Fernandez announced that he had recently attended the inauguration ceremony of new President of Burkina Faso Christian Kaboré and “welcomed” the elections that took place in that country
