ALGIERS- The Organization of the African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) addresses Sunday a motion of thanks to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, for the “support” and the “backing” he “constantly” gives to the Organization and the African workers.“The African leaders and the unionists highly appreciate President Bouteflika’s historical decision of bestowing the National Order of Merit on Francis Atwoli, president of OATUU, after having received him alongside General Secretary Arezki Mezhoud,” said the motion APS received a copy.
The African leaders and Unionists “express their gratitude and deep appreciation to President Bouteflika for his consideration to the African workers (…) and for the support he continuously provides to OATUU.”
“This decision, which remains etched in the history of the African trade union movement, honors and strengthens the commitment of the African workers for the economic and social development of our continent and the struggle for the preservation of peace, stability and social justice in Africa.”
The National Order of Merit was granted to the President of the OATUU, on the sidelines of the 39th meeting of the General Council of the Organization, held last Friday in Algiers.
He also attended the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the creation of the General Union of the Algerian Workers (UGTA) and the 45th anniversary of hydrocarbon nationalization, on 24th February.
The participants in this event extended their “sincere congratulations” to the Head of the State for the “huge achievements” obtained by Algeria, under his leadership in various fields, notably the restoration of peace through the civil harmony and the national reconciliation, the economic recovery and the return of Algeria at the international level, the same source added.
In this regard, “the Algerian experience, particularly in terms of social policy, multi-party system and social dialogue, fully deserves to be encouraged and to be a source of inspiration for other African countries, facing enormous challenges,” concluded the OATUU in its motion of thanks to the President of the Republic.
