Union solidarity : UGTA’s role emphasized by international organizations

ALGIERS- The role of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) in union solidarity at the regional and international levels has been emphasized Wednesday in Algiers by international organizations.Speaking on the occasion of the festivities marking the double anniversary of UGTAs’ creation and hydrocarbon nationalization, the representative of the director general of the International Labour Office (ILO) Mohamed Ali Deyahi stressed UGTA’s positive role at the regional and international levels.
He also paid tribute to UGTA, adding that its social dimension “has always been in the heart of the socio-economic policies of Algeria.”
For his part, representative of the Organization of the African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) Diallo Abdellay Lelouma said that “today’s event is an opportunity to reaffirm the African solidarity in which Algeria has always played a central role.”
In this regard, he broached the conditions of the creation of UGTA, considering “very significant” that the organization was created during the national liberation war.
Abdellay also underlined the different initiatives taken by Algeria to “strengthen the trade union movement in the African continent.”
President of the Social and Economic Council of Guinea Rabiatou Serah Diallo expressed her “recognition” to the efforts made by Algeria to “strengthen the union solidarity and cooperation between the African workers.”
“En cette douloureuse épreuve, je ne puis que vous présenter, et à travers vous à la famille du défunt et au peuple égyptien frère, au nom du président de la République, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, et en mon nom personnel, mes condoléances les plus attristées et ma profonde compassion”, a conclu M. Bensalah.
